Literacy

During reading we continue to explore fiction novels. Some students are deeply engaged in the Everest Series while others are wrapping up Maniac Magee. We have been using evidence from the texts to draw inferences regarding the plot events, characters and setting of the stories.

Science

Now that light, heat and sound energy have been explored we have moved on to the exploration of magnetism and electricity. Ask your child how to create a simple circuit.

Social Studies

We have moved through the Northeast and Southeast regions of the United States. The students will be finishing up with the Southeast region this week also.

Math

After deepening our understanding of fractions and decimals we were ready to begin long division. This week the transition to long division has been easy. I believe that learning how to convert an improper fraction to a mixed number helped prepare for this task.

Writing

Picture
MCAS Long Comp Day has come and gone! It is something to celebrate. The students have worked really hard at developing their writing. They have been spicing things up by adding adjectives, adverbs, idioms, similes and metaphors to their writing. We will spend the next few weeks reviewing writing standards and having some fun with writing.
